Saab Key Programming
Saab cars manufactured from 1994 have an immobilizer that relies on coded keys. A new transponder is required for addition of an extra key, and special programming. This is usually done at the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
lost saab key can be expensive. This is why you should always have a spare key on hand.
Transponder key
The transponder key is a key equipped with an electronic chip. It sends a signal to car when it is put into the ignition. The car then checks the signal to see if it matches the one in the key. If the signals are in sync, the car will unlock and begin. This is a great method to protect your car from theft.
Transponder keys are an increasingly popular feature in vehicles, but it is important to know that they are not as secure as classic keys made of metal. While the metal part of a traditional key could be cut and copied the transponder is protected by an electronic chip. This chip has a unique code embedded into the car's computer to identify it.
When a Saab key fob is used, the car recognizes it and allows it to turn on. The car will only recognize the key fob if the device has an unmodified chip and has been programmed to match. The car will not start in the event that the key has not been programmed to match.
It's crucial to ensure that you have a spare key for your Saab. This is particularly true for those who live in a rural area with many car thieves. You can purchase a new key for your Saab by going to the dealership without paying pricey cost. In most instances, you can get a brand new key made right on the spot for less than half the cost of what you would pay at dealerships.
Wired key
Saab cars are usually supplied with two keys. If you own only one, you should purchase an extra key as soon as you can. This is because if it's lost and the car needs a new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This can be costly especially for used vehicles.
The next step is to wire the column and row wires to the microcontroller. This is the most difficult part of the project and will require a great amount of soldering. There is no standard method to accomplish this, however it is important to think about the routes you'll use to solder the columns and rows. There are 22 microcontroller wires and pins to connect for this keyboard. It includes 5 rows and 17 column.
After the rows and column are joined, it is time to connect the key switches. To do this, you need to place an inverter over each pin on the key switch and solder it. This will shield the pins that are used for key switches from current and also prevent them from being shorted. A diode only allows the flow of current to be in one direction, and has a an indicator of black color that shows the direction in which current will flow.
Sanabria states that a number of the tools that are sold in auto parts stores, including the Autel MaxiIM IMM608PRO and IM508 are able to assist shoppers or DIY users to program replacement keys and restore data from the immobilizer. The tools plug into the OBD port and guide the customer through the process, making it easier than replacing the computer in the vehicle.
Jumpstarting the battery
Most people keep an assortment of tools in their trunks to jump-start a car in an emergency, however it might not be a good option for vehicles with newer technology. These vehicles have many electronic devices and computers that communicate with each other. A voltage spike when a battery is hooked up to another battery could fry these components, rendering your vehicle undriveable.
Start the working vehicle and let it run for about two minutes before connecting the cables to the one that is disabled. Attach the red clip on the positive terminal of the battery that is good. (It will say "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end to a clean unpainted metal surface underneath the hood of the disabled car. The engine block is a good option. Don't connect the black cable to the negative terminal on the dead battery because this could trigger an ignition spark that ignites the gasoline in the engine bay.
Once the cables are connected, turn on the disabled vehicle and let it run for approximately five minutes before disconnecting them in reverse order. The battery in your Saab 9-3 will recharge while you drive. It will take some time for it to return to its original state. It's a good idea buy a spare key fob as soon as you can, since replacing the one that works requires the installation of a brand new computer module and a special program to convince the system that your lost keys are not trying to steal the car.
Replacement case
Many Saab owners only have one key for their car and if they lose it, it's going to cost them. It's costly to add the key and also requires replacing the CIM or TWICE in the case of older models. It's best to have a second key in case of theft or any other catastrophe the best solution is to purchase an extra key as soon as you are able to. Even if the key is "new" it won't work.

The dealer will charge the highest dollar for only one working key. However, we can reset and re-program your computer's EEPROM to accept a new key without replacing the whole system. This can save you a great deal of money. It's also a lot cheaper than waiting until you lose your sole key.
